CLOSED: Predator Control Field Coordinator | Matukituki Valley

Part-time to June 2024

This role continues the fantastic predator control work done by the Trusts and volunteers since 2013.  In combination with the Southern Lakes Sanctuary’s landscape scale conservation project this role is to continue delivering outcomes for biodiversity conservation in the region. 

We are seeking a Field Coordinator for predator control work in the Matukituki west & east branches near Wanaka to do:

  • Field work, planning work, managing a small crew of field staff (paid and volunteers).
  • Collaborate with other operational areas within the Southern Lakes Sanctuary.
  • And other general biodiversity enhancement tasks.

Key attributes to succeed in this role:

  • A high level of fitness and the ability to carry heavy loads.
  • Experienced working in back country and alpine environments
  • Commitment to conservation.
  • The ability to stay overnight in the backcountry when required.
  • Commitment to excellent health & safety practices
  • 4WD skills and a current NZ driver licence.
  • Experience handling dead animals.

A current First Aid certificate and NZ Firearms licence would also be advantageous.

CLOSED: Communications & Marketing Manager

 

Part time, fixed term to June 2024 | Queenstown

The Southern Lakes Sanctuary (SLS) is a landscape-scale conservation project
with goals of protecting ecosystems and increasing populations and resilience
of the 30 endangered taonga species in our region.
This is a strategic marketing and communications role where skills in
developing target messages and building brand stories is vital. Being
passionate about conservation is essential.

  • Highly skilled with marketing channels
  • Can easily relate to a wide range of people
  • Can effectively communicate science-based info to non-experts
  • Isn’t afraid to get stuck in to a project
  • Self-driven and creative
  • Confident at public speaking
  • Excellent copy writing skills
  • Delegates in a clear and concise manner
  • Fine attention to detail
  • Hold a current NZ driver’s licence.
  • Willing to spend some time in the bush and not afraid to handle dead
    rats!


Our project is funded through a Department of Conservation Jobs for Nature
grant, which has enabled our project to take-off, success in this role will be
achieved when the profile and successes of Southern Lakes Sanctuary makes
it fly for many years to come!
