Takahē Sightings

Southern Lakes Sanctuary and DOC Takahē Recovery, in partnership with a multitude of other fantastic groups have officially returned takahē to the Rees Valley!

We’d love to hear about any takahē you may see in the Rees Valley – the majority of birds that have been released are juvenile and, unlike adult birds, tend to move around a lot until they establish their territory. Your sightings add to our own monitoring of these taonga species, helping us build richer insights into their movements as they establish their home in the Rees Valley.
